While I wasn't part of the project, given I just recently joined CCSA, I thought I'd make a quick mention of the organization's new interactive multimedia site targeted at informing youth of the negative effects of various forms of drug use.

It's great to see an organization making a real effort to communicate in a way that will catch and retain their audiences attention. Xperiment.ca let's folks 'experiment' on Earl, a CGI eyeball, and watch the effects various drugs have on him.

Man this made me laugh. Not that its all that funny, but when I saw it on YouTube there were TONS of variations on it. All of them had under 10 views each. Which makes me think Cisco uploaded all these videos today. They are modified versions of the official commercial, where, for reasons beyond my understanding, they've cut clips into the video with the faces of ordinary folks - maybe Cisco employees?

I did a quick google search and found no mention of why these videos were produced. The very fact that I went searching for an answer is a good example of how viral marketing, in the right context, which can sometimes just be downright zany, can work.

It's been a while since I've blogged. New job has me busy. That said, I saw a fascinating thing when I clicked on my google news tab today... one of the stories had an embedded YouTube video. On the surface it seems kind of irrelevant, after all, just go to YouTube if you want to see YouTube videos right? But hey, I haven't had a blog entry in a few weeks, I'm busy, and I don't have time to go to YouTube and do a search for related videos to a story I've just read. One thing 2.0 technologies seem too often forget is that most people don't have a truck load of free time every day to just 'search and surf'.

Anyway, kudos to YouTube for integrating video into their news portal. It's unintrusive and only takes up the bare minimum real estate. This is the kind of 'convergence' that will over time kill off traditional media.
